It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

I LOVE October.  It is my favourite month.   I love the shift in the weather as it turns cooler.  I love the colours of the leaves.  I love the flavours of fall – pumpkin, apple, and all of the soups.  I love football.  I love sweaters.  I love Halloween.  There truly is nothing about October that I don’t love.

The joy that October brings me is very real.   Some days that joy shows up in quiet ways, other days it shows up loud and bright… but it doesn’t matter how the joy shows up for me each day… what matters is that I make sure to connect into it, because it isn’t always so available the rest of the year.   Sometimes joy feels completely inaccessible to me, and that is also a natural and universal part of this human experience.  So when joy shows up, for any reason at all, I jump in, wholeheartedly.

Something I have noticed lately is that there is a mindset in the world that somehow one person’s joy can steal from someone else’s.  That only happens if we let it.   There is a series of books I have loved for many years written by Spider Robinson.  One of the tenets of the books is that “Shared pain is lessened, shared joy is increased.”  I invite you to sit with this idea…both halves… but specifically, that when we share in the experience of joy we magnify the joy.

So, just as I chose to share my joy with you today – share your joys with people around you.  Hopefully, they will share your joy and it will grow between you.   Or when someone else shares their joy with you, even if you don’t 100% feel the same – dive into it with them – give them the gift of magnifying their joy.

Basking in October,

Cara

P.S.  This does NOT apply if what brings someone joy is hatefulness… although, I would argue that isn’t joy.. I just wanted to be clear on this one. 😀
